Cognitive Approach refers to the mental activity including thinking, remembering, learning and, using language. When we apply a Cognitive Approach to learning and, teaching, we focus on the understanding of information and, concepts. If we are able to rebuild with logical connections, then our rention of material and, understandig will increase.
If we apply this method to the area of education, the fact that I really like was that students will learn new vocabulary and will practice their reading because Cognitive Approach is about reading and using a lot the memory for memorising information and, in that way students will learn new vocabulary from the books or, the material that teachers give to them.
Teachers give infomation to students; therefore, they must choose the best information or the best material that students will read. This method takes the brain as computer that processes all the information.
However, when students memorize any information sometimes the information is tend to be forgotten because they just memorize just for the moment or for passing a test and, eventually in a week they will not remember anything. So I think that for them to remember any information, it must really call their attention.
In the other hand, The Lexical Approach Method in languages teaching refers to one derived from the belief that the building blocks of language learning and communication are NOT grammar, notions or some other unit BUT lexis, words and word combinations.
Now if we apply this method in the area of education exactly for students that are studying english, teachers have to be focus on teaching vocabulary; insted of, teaching Grammar because one assumption of this method says that sometimes students are not able to communicate because they don't know a lot words in english and, they are taking care of Grammar. This is one of the facts that I like about this method because Grammar sometimes tend to be a headache for students. It is supposed that The Lexical Approach Method have to develop students language ability.
However, I don't really like the fact about to not focusing on Grammar because Grammar it might be a headache but its really important to learn how to speak and, structure correctly a new language that students are learning.
In my opinion both methods have ups and downs but, we can learn a lot from them just knowing to use properly a method as future teachers.
Hi Carmen.
ResponderEliminarI think that the cognitive approach is too normal for the students because they have to memorize a lot of things, but they can show how much know, edge do they have.... So maybe this method is not too complete but all the parts that it has make it a good method.
Regarding the lexical approach, I think that is really cool for students to know more phrases and expressions that native speakers have. This method increases the vocabulary skill of the students and they can communicate better with it.
Yeah Denis you are rigth this method is not too complete but teachers can use the good parts of this method, because students in this method have to read a lot, and in that way they practice their reading.
EliminarYeah I think the same about lexical approach students just worry about learning more vocabulary, and its easier than learning about grammar.
Hello Carmen.
ResponderEliminarIn my opinion, I think the cognitive approach is useful for teachers who want to exercise the mind. We could incorporate this method in the future. I like when the method help with the mistakes of the students, it is a correct way to learn because we remember these erros and we try to figure the mistakes out.Meanwhile, the lexical approach let the students increase more vocabulary, words, phrases and many more things like those.
Teaching a new language is a challenge for all of us, as future teachers, I think we have to develop this method in order to teach the students that we can learn from our own mistakes.
Hi Rosy :)
EliminarYeah they correct their mistakes with the experiences in cognitive approch because students learn from their mistakes... Yeah as future teachers we have to look for the best method or using the good things from the diferents methods in that way for teach in a good way for our future students.
Hi Carmen! I think cognitive approach is a good method because students learn of their mistakes o it is hoped that students remind their mistakes, Also students have to memorize a lot, and it is a problem for some students because they have problems to memorize or like you said most of the students forget what they learned.
ResponderEliminarLexical Approach I think makes easier to learn a new lenguage because you learn phrases, idioms, and at the same time you learn how to write those phrases.
Hi Ileana that true, because students learn something new and they memorize any information, but they dont practice that information, and they forget that information. I think this method should be with practice and maybe students will not forget information.
EliminarYeah Lexical Approach gives new vocabulary for their students like I always say its easier than grammar.
Hi Carmen!
ResponderEliminarI think cognitive approach is a good method for advanced learners, because it helps to realize and correct mistakes; also, it requires to memorize information that, fore sure, is an information that is necessary to know.
As all of you say, lexical approach is important to improve our vocabulary made from native speakers, that will helps to have a good understanding of the target language and also to have a good communication using idiomatical expressions.
Hello Edgar I agree with you because students with cognitive approach learn form their mistakes.
EliminarYeah Lexical approach gives students a good vocabulary :)
