CHAPTER 7

Chapter 7

This chapter focus in the English levels (basic, intermediate and advanced.) It starts with basic and gives some recommendations for teaching this level; it mentions a lot of important things that teaches have to take in account. In here the role of the teacher is most speaking almost all the time because in this way students of basic will listen to pronunciation. So, the teacher does not have to speak fast for letting students to understand. It’s important to let students to speak and speak in this way they will lose their afraid of speaking and if students make a grammar mistakes, the teacher doesn’t have to correct them at every moment of their mistakes; the teacher has to select the most important that has to be correct. And giving some little explanation in the native language to their students for making sure that they have got the idea. The teacher has to give very simple reading to students of this level.
In intermediate level, the teacher doesn’t have speak the whole class. In here, it is important to give students their space for speaking and if they do any grammar mistake, the teacher has to correct them and allow the native language when it is necessary, but only in some cases. Students in this level are more motivate so speak and for asking questions. In intermediate the techniques has to be short and understandable.
In advanced level it may be easier for the teacher because students speak more and actually by their own self they look for applying English without having afraid of speaking. So the teacher just speaks just a little; students are even motivate to speak with other learners. In here is important to correct their grammar mistakes because they are still learning and it supposed that they have to the good knowledge of grammar. To conclude teachers in all the levels is a guide to their students and in some cases they help more in others levels the teacher motivates more the students to do their own learning when a learners doesn’t have afraid of speaking and at the end learners speak more but the teacher is always there like already it was mention like a guide.

This chapter is about recommendations when a teacher teaches children or adult. It mentions about the differences; children and adults learn with different methods and they even have different behavior while they are learning. Adults can understand better some things because of their way of thinking, can be more focus and can have the capacity to analyze better things that children do not; otherwise, adults can be more sure when they speak English because they are not afraid if they do a mistake or what people thing about them. When a teacher teaches to children, the teacher must look for a way for having children’s attention and for motivating them. A good option would be that the teacher has to make the class a little fun sometimes because children will be laughing and of course, paying attention. Children are in many ways much more fragile than adults, teacher needs to help them when they are learning. A teacher must not do is treat adults like little kids because they don’t act and they are not children. Adults can feel silly if a teacher does that. Dealing with teens it may be hard because they are a mix of children and adults; they are in middle, but the thing is to apply the best method for them.

What I liked from my presentation?
Well, I liked to present my method because I like my dinamic about the memory. And I really enjoyed being in the front of everybody. The dinamic that I did about memory was pretty nice because everybody I noticed that had fun, and thats one of the things the I think that teachers have to look for; while they are learning students can have also fun.

What I could have improved?
I think that I should have managed the time because I gave more time to other students, for not all the students could participate.

Did I feel confortable?
To be honest at the at the beginning of the activity, I was nervous; however, after a while I did not feel nervous because I could manage that. And everybody was participating so well with me. I like that. I want to become a teacher, and I like being in the front of everybody, sometimes I get nervous, but I know that I will learn how to manage that I mean actually I am learning that.

What I think about the activities that my other classmates presented?
I think that all the activities were good because everybody were having a good time. Ileana's activity was good because students was learning new vocabulary with pictures, In that way, she could have their attention because of the pictures students pay attention to that information. They applied long term memory.

Cognitive Approach & The Lexical Approach



Cognitive Approach refers to the mental activity including thinking, remembering, learning and, using language. When we apply a Cognitive Approach to learning and, teaching, we focus on the understanding of information and, concepts. If we are able to rebuild with logical connections, then our rention of material and, understandig will increase.
If we apply this method to the area of education, the fact that I really like was that students will learn new vocabulary and will practice their reading because Cognitive Approach is about reading and using a lot the memory for memorising  information and, in that way students will learn new vocabulary from the books or, the material that teachers give to them.
Teachers give infomation to students; therefore, they must choose the best information or the best material that students will read. This method takes the brain as computer that processes all the information.
However, when students memorize any information sometimes the information is tend to be forgotten because they just memorize just for the moment or for passing a test and, eventually in a week they will not remember anything. So I think that for them to remember any information, it must really call their attention.
In the other hand, The Lexical Approach Method žin languages teaching refers to one derived from the belief that the building blocks of language learning and communication are NOT grammar, notions or some other unit BUT lexis, words and word combinations.
Now if we apply this method in the area of education exactly for students that are studying english, teachers have to be focus on teaching vocabulary; insted of, teaching Grammar because one assumption of this method says that sometimes students are not able to communicate because they don't know a lot words in english and, they are taking care of Grammar. This is one of the facts that I like about this method because Grammar sometimes tend to be a headache for students. It is supposed that The Lexical Approach Method have to develop students language ability.
However, I don't really like the fact about to not focusing on Grammar because Grammar it might be a headache but its really important to learn how to speak and, structure correctly a new language that students are learning.
In my opinion both methods have ups and downs but, we can learn a lot from them just knowing to use properly a method as future teachers.

GOOD TEACHERS

Being a teacher is very important because they give or they teach to the news generations and whatever that they teach, students will learn it being good or bad. That’s why being a good teacher that loves their job and love teaching is a good example to follow because they put a lot effort at the time that they are teaching. They give the good example to show to the new generations and having a better society.

A teacher who loves teaching, enjoys the job, a good teacher does his or her best, making sure that students are learning, those teachers look to the best methods to teach and they don’t give any king of boring class at the time those teachers teach children to love learning because students putt attention in class, they participate because giving a good class, the students are motivate to learn.

Good teachers are there to teach, they are a guide on the way of learning because they explain to the students and any question they help to the students. A teacher gives you the class, helps you, shows you the best way to go when you learn but it´s all up to the students because they receive the class and they have to study by hard to learn I mean at the time in an exam the students have to apply what they learn as I said a teacher is a guide on the way of learning.

When a teacher shows something that they love or they share something new they of course learn to from their students because every day, everyone always learn something new. At the time when a teacher gives a class they listen to different opinions and they meet different minds different way of thoughts in this case from their students.


There are some people that say: being a teacher is not too much in the society, but this is so wrong to think like that because a teacher is the head of all those professions that exist in the world, even a doctor needed once a teacher to learn about medicine. Teachers form new generations and prepare people for the future and for being a good person in the society. That’s why I admire teachers and always I will do.
